Fr. J.B. Sequeira appointed Vicar at Venafro Friary, Italy
Fr. Francesco Colacelli, Provincial Minister of Foggia Province, has
given permanent placement to Frs. J.B. Sequeira and Denis Prakash Lobo
as Vicars, thus incorporating them into the Province. While Br. Denis
continues at Sant’Elia Friary and is the Vicar of the community, Fr. J.B.
has been transferred to Venafro Friary and is made Vicar. Venafro is a
small town, not far away from Rome, in the vicinity of Monte Cassino.
Being a place of conducive climate, the ancient Romans had their summer
villas here. Later it had developed into an industrial zone since it is
midway between Rome and Naples.
The Capuchin Friary of Venafro, established in the beginnings of
Capuchin reform, is called as ‘Convento San Nicandro’ named after one of
the three martyrs of 3rd Cent. – Nicandro, Marciano and Daria – martyred
and buried at this very place. The church is the Basilica, adorned with
paintings and art. Padre Pio too had lived here for a short period in
1911. Being situated at the side of a state highway, people frequent
this shrine throughout the day. Presently, we are three friars in the
community - Fr. Antonello the Guardian and Br. Antonio a non-cleric. The
friary has a lovely orchard with a variety of fruit-trees and
vegetables.
